In relation to drugs or alcohol, you may have heard an expression containing the expression ‘bottom out.’ As an example, you may heard someone talk about an alcoholic brother saying, ‘If he keeps drinking the way he is drinking he’s likely to bottom out, then maybe he will do anything about it.’ Or possibly a girl talking about her companion, ‘She just really is not successful, she is bottoming out with the drinking’? It is a manifestation that has become more and more popular; however, a lot of people remain unclear about what it means. What does it mean to ‘bottom out’?
Essentially, to ‘bottom out’ is always to hit rock bottom due to a drug or alcohol addiction. When we ‘bottom out’, we let a habit influence our lives so much that we lose a lot of what’s very important to us and we get ourselves into situations that are impossible to deal with and/or get out of. To ‘bottom out’ is to hit the low of lows, is to hit ‘rock bottom’, the worst possible place for a person to become. Hopefully, hitting rock bottom will result in change for the better. Thinking is that if you can not get any lower, you can just go up.
Everybody’s description of ‘base out’ differs. Everyone has a different rock-bottom based on who they are and what’s most critical to them in the world and what is the worst-case scenario for the individual. Very cheap may include:
* Being expelled from school
* Loss of work
* Inability to keep job
* Loss of possibility
* A break-up or perhaps a divorce
* Loss of family and friends
* Loss of home and/or property
* Creation of physical health problems
* Hurting others
Bottoming out can be a relative term since no two people are alike. For many people, getting arrested for a DUI is a real wake-up call. It may cause the individual to decide they should change. For a few people, getting thrown in jail isn’t bottoming out. Others might lose their family for their habit before they decide that they’ve a challenge. Unfortuitously, a number of people have to head to the bitter end before they are prepared to acknowledge that they need help. Some might even die without ever changing. Hopefully, a lot of people will reach their own bottom well before they’ve lost everything and everyone inside their lives.
