Alcohol Addiction

In terms of drinking alcoholic beverages, the experience is quite common. The effects of alcohol is even quite common. In a normal condition, after drinking a handful, the person may become dizzy and feels like vomiting. The term “tipsy” is given to this kind of condition. Alcoholic drinks contain ingredients that go to a part of the brain and modify its function, thus, imbalance occurs, aggressive and risky behaviors, and irrational thinking. On the other hand, being tipsy can be helped. One needs to get an ample amount of sleep or he or she might need to drink a hot cup of coffee in order to recover and be sober again.

It is quite a different case when we look alcohol drinking in terms of alcohol addiction. People who are tangled into alcohol addiction could not stop drinking despite the negative consequences. Alcohol addiction is a very big drinking problem wherein drinking alcoholic drinks becomes a habit to the person. This is quite a dilemma because the drinking habit may result to undesirable and negative effects. The primary effect of alcohol addiction is to persuade the sufferer to drink at times and in amounts that are health damaging. The secondary damage is caused by the failure to control one’s drinking manifests in different ways. There are different important social costs that alcohol addiction can give to one’s family and friends. There is a high probability of psychiatric orders to result from alcohol addiction because of its adverse effects on one’s mental health.

Alcohol addiction is one cause why there are abused women and children. There is an easy air of violence once alcohol is taken in. The wives and children of the alcohol addict is usually the one most affected by this kind of violence. These kind of trauma inflicted on women and children will be forever be carved in their memories that is why the reason of being not sober does not even matter.

Alcohol addiction could be inherited. If one traces his family tree, and one of his family members or ancestors are alcoholics, then the person may be at risk for alcohol addiction. The gene responsible for alcohol addiction is currently being studied. Moreover, social factors such as, the kind of friends you are constantly with, the parental model, and the amount of stress could be factors that contribute to alcohol addiction.

As we all know, family is the basic unit in society. This is the avenue where one first learns to talk, to think, to feel, and to response. When a father has a drinking problem, he could be a contributing factor to his son’s drinking problem in the future. The child sees the father as a model. He is the primary role model for behaviors at home. Thus, the child may discover that it is alright to be drinking all the time. This is disturbing because as the child grows, no one could be there to show him or her as to what is really right and wrong. The mother may not be aware of the transference that is happening to her child.

On a problematic side, alcohol addiction seems to be an underrated disease. An alcoholic may have a hard time accepting that he or she has a drinking problem. There is no difference despite one saying he or she is a functional alcohol addict. Denial only seems to be present. Yes, they function well when they are sober, but as soon as they get their hands on a bottle of beer, they become the alcohol addicted dad or the alcoholic and violent son. Though the occurrence of alcohol addiction is common among men, women are never exempted. Women is also at risk of alcohol addiction. They are never safe from this kind of problem.

Alcohol addiction is a dangerous situation that one should be vigilant of.
