Alcohol Addiction

In terms of drinking alcoholic beverages, the experience is quite common. To add, the effects of alcohol once taken in are quite famous. Dizziness and the feeling of wanting to vomit are the results of drinking more than handful of alcohol in normal condition. This is famously referred to as being “tipsy”. Alcoholic drinks contain substances that go to an area in the brain and modify its function, thus, causing imbalance, aggressive and risky behaviors, and irrational thinking. However, there are ways on how one can recover from the state of being tipsy. An ample amount of asleep and a cup of hot coffee is all a tipsy person needs to overcome the “tipsiness”

It is quite a different case when we look alcohol drinking in terms of alcohol addiction. Despite negative consequences, people could not stop drinking once they are in a state of alcohol addiction. Alcohol addiction is a very big drinking problem wherein drinking alcoholic drinks becomes a habit to the person. This is a problem because the drinking habit may result to undesirable and negative effects. The primary effect of alcohol addiction is to encourage the sufferer to drink at times and in amounts that are damaging to physical health. The secondary damage is caused by an inability to control one’s drinking manifests in different ways. There are different important social costs that alcohol addiction can give to one’s family and friends. There is a high probability of psychiatric orders to result from alcohol addiction because of its adverse effects on one’s mental health.

Alcohol addiction is one cause why there are abused women and children. Usually, among men, alcohol allows them to be very violent. Most often, it is the wives and the children that are inflicted with the violent behaviors. These kind of trauma inflicted on women and children will be forever be carved in their memories that is why the reason of being not sober does not even matter.

Alcohol addiction could be inherited. There is a high risk of alcohol addiction when a person has family members who are also suffering from alcohol addiction. Studies have been made in trying to identify which gene is responsible for alcohol addiction. Moreover, social factors such as, the kind of friends you are constantly with, the parental model, and the amount of stress could be factors that contribute to alcohol addiction.

Family has long been considered a basic unit of every society. It is where the person first learns to talk, to think, to feel, and to response. When a father has a drinking problem, he could be a causative factor to his son’s drinking problem in the future. The child sees the father as a model. He is the primary role model for behaviors at home. Thus, the child may discover that it is alright to be drinking all the time. This is alarming because as the child grows, no one could be there to direct him or her as to what is really right and wrong. The mother may not be aware of the transference that is occurring to her child.

Moreover, alcohol addiction is a disease that nobody seems to accept. This would create a problem because an alcohol addict might have a hard time accepting his or her situation. There is no difference despite one saying he or she is a functional alcohol addict. Denial only seems to be present. Yes, they function well when they are sober, but as soon as they get their hands on a bottle of beer, they become the alcohol addicted dad or the alcoholic and violent son. Though the situation of alcohol addiction is prevalent among men, women are not exempted. They are also at risk with alcohol addiction. They too could have alcohol problems.

Alcohol addiction is a situation that can manifest everyone. No man and woman is safe.
